Welcome to Mad Gender Science! This wiki contains everything a budding mad (gender) scientist needs to further their work. Specifically, this is a resource for transgender people to educate themselves about the biology underlying transition and developmental sex differentiation, and to advance trans healthcare ourselves! |
Self-educationYou can start reading about the biological mechanisms involved in sex differentiation. HRT plays with these mechanisms, so it's important to know how they function. Timeline of sexual development (masculine) or Timeline of sexual development (feminine) is a good starting point for understanding how all this happened to us. |
Proceed with caution
![]() Please be cautious, this isn't medical advice! We do our best to make sure this information is accurate and well researched but it is publicly edited by people who may or may not be professionals. DIY is a serious decision with many potential risks, so thoroughly educate yourself and work with medical professionals whenever possible. Do not assume any of this information is correct until you have verified it through more reputable sources first. There's no "one size fits all" treatment plan and a proper regimen will be individually tuned to your needs and body - so what may work for others may not work best for you. If you do decide to pursue DIY treatment, doctors can still help you, as a means of harm reduction many will prescribe blood tests, bridge hormones until you can see a specialist, or even refer you directly to one. See Blood tests and staying safe for more information on monitoring your hormone levels. If you are worried about keeping this secret, the doctor-patient confidentiality makes it very unlikely a doctor will tell anyone against your wishes. |

Getting Started
|
MAD SCIENCE!!!Mwahahahahaa! If you're interested in the biological aspects of all this stuff, see Papers for a collection of useful papers organized by topic. A great way to start learning is to fill in articles on the Wishlist, using information from the papers (and Mabel will thank you eternally for contributing to her project!) I'm also researching a bunch of moonshot science projects like cellular reprogramming, alternative HRT regimens and computer programs. |
